Yesterday, my wife and I took the kids on Norwegian Cruise line’s newest ship, The Getaway, for Family Day with “The Moms”. I have been on a lot of cruises but had never cruised with Norwegian before. I had actually heard some mixed reviews of NCL, so until our visit yesterday, I had never before considered cruising with NCL. The first thing I did when we got home last night was search online for upcoming Norwegian cruises. Yes, I was THAT impressed.
The ship was great. After a delicious lunch and a sampling of some of the ship’s entertainment, we went on a tour of the ship. I really like the idea of the different choices of restaurants to choose from. NCL calls it Freestyle Dining. There are plenty of activities, with so many things for both adults and kids to do. Even on rainy days at sea, I know my kids would be very happy as would Jen and I.
We got to see previews of a variety of shows, including a skit from “Legally Blonde”, a magic show, a dance from “Burn the Floor” and my kids’ favorite, the Nickelodeon characters. Really enjoyed them all. My personal favorite was the tour of the casino. I am amazed with how big and how much of a variety of options to play and win there are in the Getaway Casino!
This Thursday, the Getaway is going to be transformed into the Bud Light Party Boat for Super Bowl tailgating parties. I am sure the party-goers are going to have a blast. The ship will then set sail for Miami, which will be its home port. The Getaway has a sister ship, its identical twin, the Breakaway, which will have its permanent home here in NY. I have been looking at cruises out of NYC in the fall… seriously considering cruising to Bermuda on the Norwegian Breakaway with my family and our friends.
